International Connectivity Coalition Applauds FCC Action to Strengthen U.S. Subsea Cable Policy

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The International Connectivity Coalition (ICC) commends the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for its proactive leadership in issuing a new Report and Order (R&O) and initiating a Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (FNPRM) aimed at modernizing and securing the United States’ critical subsea cable infrastructure.

Subsea cables serve as the foundation of global digital communications, carrying roughly 99% of intercontinental internet traffic. The FCC’s actions represent a vital step forward in reinforcing the resilience, redundancy, and security of these essential systems at a time when global interconnectivity is more important than ever.

“We welcome the FCC’s efforts to enhance regulatory clarity and promote more streamlined permitting for subsea cables,” said Ansley Erdel on behalf of the ICC. “The new measures are a recognition of the strategic importance of subsea connectivity and demonstrate a commitment to U.S. leadership in the global digital infrastructure arena.”
